Is dentist right in saying daughter cannot have braces until she is 12?

Q. Hi, Our daughter is now 6 yrs old and she has her adult 2 upper front teeth and 2 front lower teeth through – our concern is that although she cleans twice a day with an electric toothbrush, they appear yellow and speckled with white patches. She has been in hospital a few times on strong intravenous antibiotics and we are concerned that this affected her teeth as they were ‘forming’ or growing through? Also, her top 2 teeth are similar to mine and quite large in comparison to the ‘average’ size and havea large gap in between them – I asked our dentist if a brace would be needed and he advised that he would not begin to ‘touch’ her teeth with a brace until she is at least 12 or when all of her adult teeth are through – is this normal because I had a brace fitted when I was still in primary school – so under 11 yrs old. Thankyou,
A. Most orthodontist will wait until about 12 to carry out brace work – you child has a lot of growing to do which may improve the situation naturally over time
