Should i need a new crown for my cracked teeth?

Q. Hello, one of my back teeth has a crack in it my dentist replaced my old filling with a sticky white one but this has not worked it is still sensitive and i cannot chew on it my dentist says i know have 3 options, extraction, root canal treatment or a crown what would be my best option? also he states that part of the treatment in having a crown is to have root canal procedure? why if my tooth is just cracked?

A. The crack may have provided a line of weakness that bacteria can travel down and into the nerve. THe best treatment depends on the depth and directon of the fracture,
