Should I have the infected tooth removed and replaced with a dental implant?

Q. Dear Dr Moore Last year, One of my top teeth (the 3rd tooth toward the back starting with the canine) was re-crowned, the root canal retreated and an infection treated as well. 8 months later I have another infection and I’m due to see a specialist to see if the infection can be treated. The tooth has a post that cannot be removed. If the infection cannot be treated, the tooth will have to be removed. If it’s possible, would you say that it’s worth to clear the infection (by lifting the gum) knowing that it could be recurrent, or should I have it removed and and an implant placed? My dentist charges £4500 for an implant and I cannot pay that for one implant. What would you say the cost for an implant with a good dentist should be in London? What are the main questions I should ask when looking for another dentist that specialises in placing implant? I would really appreciate your help?,
A. London dentists charge a lot more for implants than normal. For instance a straightforward case would cost £2000 at my clinic in Essex. perhaps if cost is an option you should shop around but look for an experienced dentist with a qualification such as Dip Imp Dent RCS (Eng) or an Msc
