My teeth has been removed and now i had a awful infection should i go ahead with implants

Q. Dear Dr Moore, I had two lower back teeth removed with a bone graft on both. My dentist gave me antibiotics but as soon as they were finished I had the most awful infection, my face was badly swollen and I was in terrible pain until the end of the second round of antibiotics. Is it possible for you to tell me if I would be at higher risk of infection when (and if) I go ahead with the two implants. I am terrified of getting more infection. I am 60 years old. Many thanks. PS. both extracted teeth were quite badly diseased and decayed.

A. Most infections are caused by local factors such as the condition of the teeth before they were removed rather than a general predisposition to infection so unless your general health is poor the chances are that the teeth where the cause of the problem. If the bone has healed completely before implants are placed then the treatment should be straightforward
