My teeth are crooked and I cant afford to pay privately what are my options now?

Q. Hi dr, i had fixed braces for 18months when i was 12 i wore the retainer as instructed and now im 26 they are back how they were. due to my age my dentist informed me i would not be eligable for nhs treatment for braces as i was over 18. i cant afford to pay privatly , my front 2 cross over slightly but its the next 2 cross over front 2 and one sticks right out of my lips when i close my mouth. the rest arent very straight but it just the front ones which bother me. i try not to smile if possible because of this and i want to know is there no way for me to get this through the nhs or can i get a home kit to do it myself i know you wouldnt reccommend for me to attempt it myself but it has got to that stage where i would. please help thanks x

A. There isn’t away of fixing crooked teeth at home and i`m afraid you probably won’t get the treatment on the NHS. You could try an Inman aligner which is cheaper than conventional braces and works quite quickly?

It sounds like you need braces but `i guess you’ll need to pay for them. A s guide an Inman Aligner will cost around £1500 and is a fast acting brace

I have several questions: 1- Does the Inman Aligner have to be worn 24 hours a day? Can it be worn, for instance, just in the evenings and at night while in bed? 2- I have straight teeth (on the top row) except for the teeth either side of my two front, middle teeth. One is in front of my middle teeth, while the other is behind it. Would the Inman Aligner be suitable for solving this problem? 3-I am 16 years old (I can’t get my teeth straightened on the NHS due to the problem not being severe enough); is there a minimum age for the Inman Aligner? Many thanks.

hello 1) no it only needs to be worn 16-20 hours a day. Ideally it should be worn a bit through the day too, 2)sounds possble 3) 16 is ok, but any dentist will need to give a thorough check of suitability before going ahead hope this helps
