Dear Enquirer,
It sounds like he has gum disease. Ask your dentist to confirm the health of his gums and seek appropriate treatment.

I’m 44 years old and concerned about what I believe is premature and excessive gum recession on my lower front four teeth. This has been caused by years of difficult cleaning access owing to a fixed appliance. I’m a professional musician (brass player) and am more concerned about preserving the natural teeth rather than aesthetics. Please can you advise me if a gum graftmight help my situation and would I be able to come for an initial assessment to see if it is necessary and to find out how you might be able to helpme? Thanks very much. I look forward to hearing from you
