my filled tooth started to hurt is there more cavity underneath thats causing the pain?

Q. I had a filling done about a year ago. It was a typical white filling (not sure what those are called). It was sensitive for a while, but eventually was ok. A couple days ago that tooth started to hurt. It was mild at first, but now its excrutiating. The whole tooth is pounding. The filling is still there, so is there more cavity underneath thats causing the pain?

A.

You need to see your dentist ASAP to assess the tooth. you may need root canal treatment to save the tooth. It sounds as though the pulp is inflamed. Without seeing you in person- it is hard for me to comment.
The dentist will probably need to take an x-ray of that tooth and give you a course of antibiotics to help it settle before carrying out further treatment.
