my daughter is teeth growing horizontally under the nose what might be the treatment to follow

Q. I have recently returned form the othodentist with my 14yr old daughter having been told she has one of her teeth growing horizontally under her nose (her original “baby” tooth is stil in place)- consequently we are being referd to the hospital for treatment. I was wondering if you could give me an idea of what treatment might follow as she is a particuarly nervous child – thanks

A. I would assume this is her canine tooth.  The tooth has got stuck and will not come out naturally so needs to be helped out. At the hospital they will expose the tooth and attach a fixed metal brace to help pull it back to the right place.  Even though this is quite complex it is a very common procedure she can be put to sleep for the more complex parts.  She will be fine and it is well worth having the treatment done.
