my daughter is in italy and has a receding gums is it necessary for her to extract the teeth

Q. Hello, I wonder if you can give me some advice. My daughter who lives in Italy, age 30, and expecting very soon her first baby, had fixed braces put in top and bottom about a year ago, she has been going for regular check ups and the last time the dentist told her that her bottom teeth had come too far forward, her gums were receding and there would be the possibility of losing teeth. He told her that to correct the problem he would have to extract two teeth from the bottom and two from the top and keep the braces in for another year (originally the time indicated was a year and a half). What do you think, should my daughter get a second opinion or is this normal practise? Thank you in anticipation.

A. I really can not advise you without seeing your daughter.  I think she should get a second opinion before any teeth are removed.
