My 17 year old daughter has yellow coloured teeth and wants them whitenend, what do you suggest?

Q. My 17 year old daughter is wanting her teeth whitened as they really are a yellow colour. The problem is that about 5 years ago she had white spots on her front teeth and her dentist applied a paste on the front of the teeth to make them the same colour as the rest. They do seem a lot yellower now though. What would this paste be and will it whiten with the rest of the teeth or will she need to have it removed and replaced. Her dentist changes every time she goes and most of them dont speak very good english. Please advise me as she is so upset and wants a nice white smile.,
A. I would imagine this is some kind of tooth coloured filling material. All whitening products only whiten natural tooth surfaces so it may be that this paste would have to be replaced after the tooth whitening to match the new whiter teeth.
