My 16 year old daughter has white marks on her teeth, what treatment can she have to remove them?

Q.
My daughter just turned 16 and has what appears to be “white stains on her teeth. I thought it was from her braces but the orthodontist said it was probably from the iron she had to take when she was an infant.
She was anemic when she was a baby; at 2 months of age we put the iron drops down the side of her check once a day for 6 months. We did this until she stopped breastfeeding and got the iron from her formula.
Either way, now that she has straight teeth, she wishes they were a nicer color.

What are her options?

A.
She has many options, but at her age, probably some kind of micro-abrasion is likely to be the safest and least invasive at this stage in her life. Her suitability for any treatments of course would have to be assessed beforehand.

When she is a little older then maybe some tooth whitening or alternative aesthetic dentistry options such as bonding or veneers may be the most suitable, but again an individual assessment of her suitability needs to be made first.

The first treatment option right now , might be to do nothing at all and wait until she’s a bit older. The risk with doing any treatments at this age is that there could be damage to the nerves of her teeth.

I hope that helps but please take her for a facec to face consultation with a local expert in cosmetic dentistry

Kind regards

Mark
