I’ve had a crown fitted and my bite is uncomfortable, would another dentist reshape or redo it?

Q.
Hi doctor,
I had a crown put onto my teeth after a root canal treatment. However, I feel that it isn’t placed right and my bite feels different and uncomfortable. I want to know if I can go to another dentist and ask him/her to reshape it to make my bite feel more comfortable. My question is, will the crown be taken off and then put back on or will the doctor simply just reshape it using the burr? Also, would i need anesthesia for this procedure?
A.
The crown will more than likely be cemented on with a permanent cement, It may just be the the bite, I would go back to the dentist who placed the crown and get him to adjust it. If you go to a new dentist you will end up paying again.

Hi Doctor,
I had a smile correction on my front 6 teeth due to which I had to undergo 4 intentional root canals. I’m not too happy with the Smile correction as my smile resembles a reverse “U” unlike the ideal smile which is “U” shaped. My upper lateral incisors are longer than the central incisors. If I go back to my dentist kindly clarify if they will be able to correct this without any major procedures? Can burr be used on the crowns to grind? & can composite bonding be used to lengthen the central incisors by 1 mm or so?

Hi, could you please tell me whether a lava crown (with zirconia inside), is suitable for a second from the back, molar ? If yes, is it suitable to still place this type of crown when there is a lava crown on the opposite tooth? Both teeth in question have had root canal, core & post. I am concerned that having two strong crowns come in to contact whilst biting/chewing etc, could cause adverse problems? Could you also tell me what price i should expect to pay for a lava crown? Thank you so much

There should be no problem in having lave crowns opposing each other. Crowns can range from £500 to £750 per tooth. Regards

Hi and thanks for your question There are many alterntaives to gold crowns these days that can look virtually identical to a ‘real’ tooth. One such example is a material call E-max. In some cases however the gold is required for strength but that would need to be assessed beforehand Please feel free to come and visit my practice for a second opinion or ask your dentist for alternatives

I had a temporary crown put on one week ago. I have had to keep advil in me since the first day because of the pain. At first I was sore but now when the advil wears off my tooth is throbbing. The advil does take care of the pain for the most part. I called the dentist today and he put me on antibiotic – amoxocylin-500mg 1 tablet 4x a day. Will this take care of this? Is my tooth infected from the work I had done or will I need a root canal? Im worried about having an infected tooth for so long. I didnt call him right away because i was out of town from thurs( when It really started to notice it hurt) till sunday night.

I would delay fitting the permant crown until the pain has been treated. If a root canal is needed, it can be carried out first.

I got 4 upper front crowns, 2 on each side, which is almost 16 years old. My right hand side crown chip once on the top causing such embarrasement. The dentist cover the chipped part with veneer, will it last or do i have to redo the whole crown? How long does it take to replace them? Does it takes weeks? Because I need to go to work. Can old crowns be replaced? Mine start to recede, smelled and the gap reappear. And look a bit gummy. If replace does it guarantee fit or will it cause further problems. At this moment the people at my area all not please with my messing with my teeth. They are all very conservative and not approve of my act.

I’ve had an implant on my upper right number 4 tooth. The whole process went well but when the crown came from the lab it looked too bulbeous and not flat like my other teeth and it was too white. My dentist sent it back to the lab and now the colour is slightly better but I don’t think they did anything about the shape. Should I go back to my dentist to have it sent back to the lab? it looks very false. It cost me £2000

I had a crown put on several weeks ago…I didn’t have any pain with the temporary but when my dentist put on the perm. crown I had major pain within an hour and it worsened after the numbness wore off. I went back the next morning and he readjusted the crown and it’s been fine since. I have some minor sensitivity to cold but the main problem is my jaw aches 1 to 2 times a day…massively. Usually after sleeping or sports. Is this normal? The crown was on the top left, last tooth (not wisdom tooth though).

If the bite is off, it can create deep pain. Stay on top of this. Have it looked at again . Most often these situations get better with time.

The cost of a Cerec restoration is similar to any other type of crown. The cost will vary depending on where you live and the expertise of the doctor treating you.

Dear Sir or Madame, Recently, I had bonding on my front teeth to close up a small gap. However, the gums in between these two teeth has started to swell and become inflamed. It sort of feels like when you’ve brushed or flossed too much. The bonding itself doesn’t really touch the gums but could it be because food gets stuck in this gap more often than usual? Is this something to worry about or will it fade away naturally. Thank you!

I would go back to your dentist there could be some material irritating your gums.
