Is there an age limit for braces? I am 44 years old, are there any dangers to my health?

Q. what is the age limit for braces. Can a 44 years old woman get braces? will it be a danger for her health?,
A. Thank you for your enquiry. Orthodontic treatemtn does not have any age limit but you will need to be assessed to see if the treatemtn is suitable for you. I would get an opinion from an Orthodontist to see what your options are. Kind regards

thanks for this im 25, and was wondering if i was too old for braces and if there was an age limit, now i hear that people are having braces in their 50’s. I am looking to get invisalign braces so that they do not interfere with my work. my nephew is having braces soon and he is only 12 and he is going for the invisalign teen system so i guess that there are brace systems for everyone

Hello there doctors I am looking to get my teenage son braces and really like the look of invisalign as it is discreet and my son is pretty self conscious about his appearance as it is. I was just wondering though what is the difference between invisalign and invisalign teen? and which one would be my best option both treatment and cost wise? any help you could give would be really great

Invisalign and Invisalign teen are essentially the same thing. Cost varies depending on severity and length of treatment but ranges from $5500- $5800 on a national average.

hi could you tell me how invisalign differs from invisalign teen? I have a 15 year old who could really do with braces for an overbite and he is really quite self-conscious, so invisalign sounds like a really good option but i was just wondering if the teen edition was better? thank you for your time

Hi there! Invisalign teen has features that are useful when the second molars or the second premolars are not fully erupted. At the age of 15 your child should be able to have normal Invisalign but it is better for an Invisalign providing dentist to have a look at him/her first and then decide. Hope that helps.

I have overcrowed teeth in my bottom set and need to have 4 teeth removed ( 2 premolars form top set and 2 premolars from bottom set) with braces for 18-24months & retaimer for another 6-12months. I am 18years of age and will start university this sept so whay do you advice as MY dentist says I do not have to go ahead with treatment as the top set is okay. i DO NOT want to have good teeth taken out if it is not necessary. Why not just remove two teth from the bottom set and then with braces let them fill the gap. THANK YOU.

hello can you use invisalign even for people with older teeth? I am 60 and am in good oral health but my teeth have moved quite a bit since i was young. Have you ever treated anyone my age with invisalign and have you been successful? Also how much on average does it cost? thank you for any information you have

Alex Says :

Hi there! You would be fine to have orthodontic treatment at 60, my oldest patient currently is 68. The most important thing is to determine whether you are a suitable candidate for invisalign and then take it from there!

can you treat children with invisalign? My daughter is 11 and i am noticing that her adult teeth have come through crooked. I don’t want her to have to suffer through primary and high school, do you think she would be ok for the invisalign treatment? She as two remaining baby teeth on her top jaw, would that pose a problem? thank you

Johnathan Says :

Invisalign teen is very good and I treat a number of children with them, my only rule is they must be willing to wear the aligners as it will not work without excellent co-operation.

what is the difference between invisalign and invisalign teen? I am 15 and i really hate my front teeth, which cross over and i have one of those fangs as well. Should I ask for invisalign or invisalign teen? Do you know if it costs any less than normal invisalign? thank you

Jana Says :

Invisalign teen is for youngsters who may not wear the aligners on a regular basis, hence the blue dots i think you are old enough to change the aligners every 2 weeks and to comply. Inv Teen is a little more expensive

Hi, i have really crooked teeth on my top and bottom mainly due to overcrowding, will i have to have teeth out for invisalign, is that a normal thing to do like you do for normal braces? I would really like to avoid that to be honest as i am quite scared of procedures such as that, hope you can help thanks for your time

Annika Says :

each case is different, in a lot of cases, removal of teeth is not required while in some case it is required. I would recommend you go for a consultation so that the dentist can assess your bite and the amount of crowding. An alternative could be Damon braces, with this systems removal of teeth is required only in a small number of cases.

They are clear you can come and visit me and I can show them to you, my oldest client to have invisalign was over 60 years old so there is no age limit.

I am two years into my Invisalign treatment, I went for a check up the other day and my dentist seemed worried that I had signs of root resorption. I have an appointment arranged for further investigation. Could this have been caused by Invisalign? should I stop my treatment?

October 6th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Ronald Says :

Hi With any orthodontics or tooth movement there is a mild risk or root resorption. This may be increased if the tooth / teeth have suffered from some trauma such as a bang to them or even previous orthodontics. Invisalign only generates mild forces to move teeth but it still is a potential risk. I would suggest you continue to wear your current aligner to hold the teeth in their current position until further investigation. This will not be pushing the teeth further but also not letting all the good work slip. Good luck
