Is it worth getting lava caps at this point or should I wait until my teeth are in the more “ruined” state?

Q. My 4 front upper teeth are somewhat chipped and have had several bonding procedures. I have asked my dentist for a way of preserving the teeth from further chipping and deterioration. He suggested Lava caps. My biggest concern is about the filing of the tooth. My dentist said that old bonding will be filed off but also he will need to file off some of my teeth. Is it worth doing at this point or should I wait until my teeth are in the more “ruined” state? I am concerned because I always remember being told that it’s better to retain as much of the natural tooth as possible. What should I do??? Thank you ever so much for your advise.

A. I would agree that the ideal is to keep as much tooth as possible. Without seeing you it is not possible to say whether Lava crowns are your best option or not
