is it okay to have white fillings at the top of my teeth where the gum has receeded

Q. My dentist wants me to have white fillings at the top of my teeth where the gum has receeded. He says this will protect the root. I am concerned these will fall out because they aren’t sitting in a cavity. What are the chances of this happening?
