Is it a good idea to get dental implant for my molar

Q. Hi there, I’ve recently had a molar second from back on the top jaw removed because of a fractured tooth from eating some hard chocolate. I’m quite young 25 and was wondering if you thought getting a dental implant was a good idea or bad? Most of my molars have quite large fillings and im afraid of the bone tissue and teeth close to the gap weakening. Also i’ve heard of some new advancements of growing new teeth from stem cells. Would this be a viable option in the future? Thanks

A.

Stem cell research is well advance in mice, but nothing published using primates yet, so it will before clinical trials then commercial system in humans.
We routinely place dental  implants into recent extraction sockets where there is good volumes of residual bone.the optimum time is around 8-12 weeks after extraction when a mature layer of skin has sealed the area but the bone has not yet collapsed to reshape the ridge.
Sometoimes we use a preliminary cone beam scan of the jaw and use the 3D xray image to assist planning.
