Infection around the implant
Q. I have an implant of the 4 teeth at the upper front for the last 4 years, never had a problem until recently when I could feel something swelling at the back of the front teeth, it eventually burst and a lot of puss came out, I went to see my dentist and took an x ray and told me that I have a big infection near one of the implant, at present he is not sure what to do, he gave me antibiotics for one week and then I have to see him to decide what it could be the best procedure. Can you please advice me? options at present are: to remove the implant and replace it or to open up the implant and wash it off but before to take a scan in 3 dimention.
A. Hi many thanks for your enquiry, it sounds that if you are getting a large infection around the implant it maybe the implant is failing. my advice would be on the first instance to get the CT scan done which will give you much more information, secondly if your dentist is not a experienced implantologist to seek the advice of an experianced surgeon on what would be the next best course of treatment. hope this is helpful.
