I want a braces to straighten my bottom teeth but i was told it may ruin the grafts is it correct?

Q. Five yrs ago I had gum grafts done around each tooth on my bottom row of teeth. I now have braces but only partial on my top row of teeth. I desperately want braces to straighten my bottom teeth but I was told it may ruin the grafts I had done. Can you explain why and it this information is accurate?

A. The movement of the teeth with braces could cause unstable gums to shrink back. It doesn’t always occur but you are more at risk. You need to decide whether to risk the gum shrinking, and whether the cosmetic improvement is worth this risk. Regards  Andrew
