Q. I think I have an abscess on front tooth which already has a crown. After root canal treatment, can same crown be used or would I need a new one? Already having another crown removed because of abscess and getting an implant but cannot afford two implants at £2000 each. Is there any particular reason why both crowns would develop abscesses at same time?

A. Normally to treat the root canal a hole is made in the crown that makes it unsuitable to reuse long term . If your immune system is run down you can get several problems becoming apparrent at the same time.
Root canal is the normal first treatment of abscesses, implants are useful if root canal fails or is unlikely to succeed at the start.
If you still have doubts consider a second opinion.
