I need to replace my bridge for 3 teeth

Q. Hello Dr Suri I’ve had a bridge at the lower rear left side of my mouth for many years and it needs replacing. It covers the area of 3 teeth. I have changed dentist who is recommending instead of having a new bridge,to have two crowns and a dental implant for the missing tooth in the middle. Is this the way forward?! Which do you consider to be the best option? I’m healthy in my mid-30\s.

A. Your dentist is giving you the best advice. If I was in the same situation as you I would have two separate crowns and an implant to replace the missing tooth. Bridges ultimately fail because you have 2 teeth supporting the weight of 3. You will be faced with a the problem later on in life so it is best to take the pressure off the adjacent teeth now and have an implant placed.
Kind Regards
