I’m thinking about having my crowns replaced, would the dentist have to file of more of my teeth?

Q. I am thinking of having old crowns replaced after 20 odd years.because they look very dull. Would the dentist have to file off more of my teeth when old crowns removed, or not necessessarily? Apart from the dullness of the crowns I am having no problems with them. I just thought all ceramic ones would be an improvement and have amore translucent look but not at the expense of having any more of the teeth filed off. Thanks in anticipation,
A. Sometimes a lit more space might be needed to allow your new crowns to be metal free, it really depends on what your dentist finds under the crowns.
