How Much Does Tooth Reduction Cost?

Thursday, March 5th, 2015
Q.

Hi,

I have been looking into getting my two front teeth filed down a bit for quite some time now. They are about 5 mm longer than the teeth at either side, so I would be looking to bring them a little more inline with them. I also have a white mark on my right tooth, which this would also help to remove a bit of.

Would you be able to provide me with some advice and possibly an idea of cost? Thank you.

How Can I Stop My Tooth From Chipping Even More?

Tuesday, December 9th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. My right front tooth has been chipping away for a few years now, it started very small, not noticeable at all. A few days ago I notice a slightly bigger chip in the middle of the tooth. I can feel my tooth is very thin and quite weak in that area. I am just wondering if there is anything I can do to improve the look of it, or prevent it from chipping even more. I was thinking maybe to get my two front teeth filed down to match? Is this an option? I asked my dentist about this years ago but he said its nothing to worry about, just try not to drink sugary fluids. Please let me know my options. I am looking for prevention and a long term fix. Thanks for reading.

Is It Possible To Remove Onlays And Start Again? Will This Damage My Natural Teeth?

Tuesday, October 14th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I’ve just recently had 2 onlays next to each other to on my upper set of teeth but the dentist filed them down too low after fitting them in. He then topped them up again with a filling material but they are still too low and do not meet the lower teeth. Is it possible to remove the onlays to start again? Will this damage my natural teeth? Is it bad to keep adding layers of filling over the onlays? My dentist is having difficulty and seems stuck with what to do. Thank you for your time.

My Crown Felt Too High, So My Dentist Filed Down the Tooth Above It. Is This the Correct Procedure?

Friday, September 5th, 2014
Q.

I recently had a new crown fitted and immediately felt it was too high. It is also much deeper (front to back) than my other teeth. My dentist asked “does it feel too high?” and when I answered yes, she checked it by asking me to bite down and move my teeth from side to side on a strip of paper, said “I’ll adjust it”, and then proceeded to file down the tooth immediately above it – without informing me first. The filed tooth is root-filled and is mainly filling anyway so it didn’t hurt, but is this normal procedure if a crown is too high? It seems all wrong to me and the filed tooth is now shorter than the corresponding one on the other side. Surely any filing should have been done to the crown?

Is There Any Way You Could Get My Smile To Look Like A Certain Celebrity’s?

Thursday, February 20th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Mark Hughes,
My question is kind of silly and original but I really wondering if I could make my smile look like a certain celebrity’s. The celebrity’s teeth that I want my teeth to look like are small and her jaw is small as well and I have big teeth and a big jaw. So I guess you would have to file my teeth down right? And then if there are gaps left in between you would have to put braces on right? So what I am wondering is whether you can change my teeth to look like a celebrity’s and if my jaw would be similar to hers if the teeth are the same as well. It would be great to get any feedback on whether this would be at all possible. Thank you.

I’ve Noticed A Small Chip On The Bottom Of My Front Tooth. How Should I Fix This Problem?

Monday, December 9th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I have noticed that I have a small chip on the enamel at the bottom of my front left tooth. It is only noticeable up close but I can also feel it with my tongue. I have read about teeth being filed down and wondered if this would be a suitable treatment as I am worried that the chip may get bigger or that it may be prone to infection. My two front teeth come down quite a bit lower than the rest of my teeth so I think they could be filed without it looking odd. What do you think I should do? Any advice would be gratefully received. Many thanks.

How Much Is It To Get Two Implants As I Have A Drifting Issue?

Friday, September 27th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Patel. My problem is that I am in need of a molar implant as after having it taken out when I was sixteen, it has now caused a drifting issue but also I need my second molar on the left taken out due to a bad filling and I am really paranoid about the gap from the previous extraction, so much so that I fear that if I have this other one taken out I won’t be able to smile again.

How much will it cost to have two implants? I don’t really want bridges as they would have to file the teeth down and they look really noticeable and that’s something that I don’t want. Thank you in advance for any advice, I hope you can help.

I am experiencing pain under one of my new veneers, should I be worried?

Monday, November 28th, 2011
Q.

Hi,

I had two porcelain veneers on my canine teeth a month ago. I had a problem with the bite but the dentist did some filing at it all seemed well. However the last 10 days I have been getting pain in one of the veneers, which is sore to touch and also alot of pain moving around that side of my jaw. I went to the dentist and she said i need a root canal she didnt do any X-rays.

Do you think the pain may settle down? The pain comes and goes.

Also wondering why it only started a few weeks after treatment too.

Many thanks

How can I resolve my awful gappy smile ?

Thursday, May 5th, 2011
Q.

Hi

Would the inman aligner be a good option for the gap I have in between my two front teeth? Or should I consider veneers?

I am quite concious of the gap that I have and would like to be able to have perfectly straight teeth and a hollywood smile. In addition, my next two teeth are my k9 teeth and as these have a point towards the end, is there something that I can do about these? can i have them filled down or can i have lose veneers to cover the gaps? I have considered the veneers, but recently came across the inman aligner we seems a cheaper and alternative treatment.

Thanks
