I have worn a denture for 30 years and need bone grafting

Q. I have worn a top denture for over 30 years, recently I having implants or a implant supported denture, I went for an x ray and was told because of the loss of bone I would need to have a bone graft this sounds like a long process and I would not be able to wear my denture for about one month, so it looks like I am going to be stuck with dentures and fixative, the dentist told me that even this wont be an option in about five years because there will be no bone or suction left for dentures to remain stable is there any solution you could advise me of?

A. It is difficult to give you exact options without seeing you and x-rays. Even if you have had severe bone loss you could have bone grafting or block grafting. During this time you CAN wear your dentures we will place a “soft reline” under your dentures which acts as a cushion so you can still wear them. The dentures will feel loose but fixatives are wonderful…it is important that we reduce the pressure of the denture on the areas we graft to allow new bone to grow. Your options would then be 2 implants under a new denture or 4-6 implants with permanently fixed teeth. You are more than welcome to come and visit for a consultation and I can show you some great cases where we have re-grown a lot of bone.
I hope this helps you.
