I have radiation induced xerostomia and i lost most of my enamel what are the long range options

Q. I have radiation induced xerostomia. My dentist tells me that the enamel is nearly gone (almost all of my teeth have been effected). What are my options for treatment. I don’t have cavities YET. It does hurt to chew crunchy foods and sometimes to brush my teeth. I am already using daily flouride trays and floss multiple times a day. My concern is for long range planning. My dentist would like to do a few crowns every year. I don’t want to put that kind of money into my mouth if the crowns aren’t going to last forever. Ideas?

A. It sounds like you are doing all the right things already and crowns would be your best solution. Unfortunatley nothing last forever and that includes crowns fillings or any other dental treatment
