My boyfriend has to have root canal treatment and his dentist has offered him a metal coloured crown. I think a natural tooth colour would look better because he already has a large metal crown on the other side but his dentist advises him that the metal lasts longer. Is that correct?

It depends on his bite. You can get cosmetic crowns which have metal inside so they look just as good.
