I have an underbite should i have surgery and a fixed brace

Q. I am 37 yrs old and have an underbite. I’ve been offered surgery and fixed brace under the NHS but the whole process would take at least 2 yrs. As I am single the thought of wearing a fixed brace at my age has put me off the procedure, but the underbite still bothers me! Is there a compromise such as veneers (which I would obviously have to pay for)? I feel very self-conscious when I smile and welcome any other suggestions to help my situation. ps. The surgeon will not use invisible braces as she says they do not work as well.

A. Veneers can hide the underlying jaw problems and the treatment will be a lot quicker but you will need to undergo extensive restorative dentistry.  i would recommend going to see a good cosmetic dentist and having a consultation so you can see what options are available.

I am really interested in either veneers or crowns or whatever is more suitable to my particular needs. The poblem I have is that both my top and lower jaws meet dead on! There is no overlap of the top jaw over the lower as most people tend to have. Is it still possible to have either veneers or crowns. My top teeth at the front are straight, right across so to speak.
