I have a weird jawline and a bad overbite, what do you suggest I should do?

Q. Hi Dr Patel, I am a 32 year old male with a severe case of overbite and a very weird jawline. I have been thinking of having this corrected and really don’t know where to start? I used to wear braces as a child, which somewhat corrected the teeth but it is still noticeable. Do you have a suggestions or advice? Thanks,
A. It is very difficult to diagnose and advise you without seeing you. You need to find a good cosmetic dentist and get a consultation. Your treatment may be orthodontics and it could be combined with cosmetic work to improve the appearance of your teeth. If your overbite / jaw is very bad you may need surgery to get the best result.

Hi, I am looking at getting Invisalign braces as i have a massive overbiteand i hate my teeth at the moment. I was wondering about the costs of this,I know you wont know an exact amount without looking at my teeth but justa rough estimate would be great. Also can you let me know how much it is for a consultation. Kind regards

hi there doctor, i hope you are well I was just wondering could you tell me if my daughter is a candidate for invisalign? She is 14 years of age and has all of her adult teeth, but her two front teeth protrude quite a bit due in part to a dummy she use to chew as a child. Do you think invisalign is the system for her? thank you for your time and any help you can give

Clifford Says :

It is possible that invisalign may work for her, it is very difficult to say without a full examination. I would recommend going for a consultation with a dentist that offers many types of teeth straightening treatments so that you can be fully aware of all options

hello would you say that invisalign is a valid treatment for the correction of overbites? thank you

Daquan Says :

Hello, We have used Invisalign many times to correct the overbite situation but whether or not Invisalign is the best solution for you is very much dependent upon the extent of your overbite.. A full Invisalign consultation is what I would recommend to assess your suitability.

hi what time frame for treatment would you suggest for an overbite? I am looking to have my teeth striaghtened and whitened in time for my wedding in 4 months, have you seen overbite cases treated within that time before? thank you for your time

Alexys Says :

Hi Difficult to give you an average time frame as every case is different. Invisalign may struggle to treat this in four months. Have you considered a lingual (on the inside of the teeth) brace? Such as Incognito or Social 6 – these are truely hidden. Or if the teeth can be easily tipped an Inman aligner? I would definitely try and get a consultation as soon as possible! Good luck!

would you say invisalign was a good treatment for someone with an overbite? I really hate my goofy, stuck out teeth, but want to avoid hideous, visible train-tracks and would much prefer invisalign. Have you treated overbites with invisalign before? thanks for any help

Katelynn Says :

It depends on the size of the overbite above 5mm surgery is often a better option or sometimes having teeth removed, I would need to see you to give you the best options.

Damien Says :

do you have to have any teeth removed to have invisalign? I have an overbite that i really want to sort out, but am scared of injections and really don’t want to have any teeth taken out, something my old orthodontist told me i would have to have.

Amina Says :

Hi there! No need to be scared, the vast majority of patients receiving Invisalign do not need to have any teeth removed. The most probable reason your orthodontist suggested that is to create space if your teeth are overcrowded. With Invisalign we can create the necessary space with other ways which are non-invasive e.g. arch expansion, IPR, but it would be best if you were assessed by a dentist who provides Invisalign. If you are in our area, we offer free assessments. Best of luck

Demetrius Says :

hello could you tell me about the inman aligner for a misaligned bite? My jaws sit in the opposite direction of each other and it causes me endless annoyance with my smile, eating and speaking. I am 24 years of age and stupidly didn’t get brace treatment when it was available on the NHS. However, i have been told that the inman aligner is cheaper than most other braces and that it also works pretty quickly. What is the average price for the inman aligner treatment? and who long is it likely to take? thank you

September 16th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Sullivan Says :

The Inman Aligner is mostly for cosmetic orthodontics your situation will require much more than the Inman Aligner is capable of. Sorry

hello I damaged my front teeth about 4 years ago and they had to be taken out and replaced with implants. I was just wondering if I would still be ok to have invisalign for the treatment of my overbite, even though i have the two implants? I don’t risk loosing my front teeth if i have braces do i? thank you

October 7th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Vincent Says :

Hi, The implant retained teeth can not be moved orthodontically because, unlike natural tooth roots\teeth, the implants are fused to the bone. Many thanks

Asher Says :

can invisalign be used to treat a bottom jaw that sticks out over the top jaw. I feel incredibly self conscious of this and it even affects the way i talk and eat, so i am very much intent on receiving some sort of orthodontic treatment. If invisalign isn’t a good option, could you recommend a brace that can, preferrably the most discreet version available as i would really prefer something more unnoticeable than ‘normal’ braces. Thank you

Anita Says :

I am sorry but Invisalign will straighten your teeth but cannot shorten the jaw. You would need extractions and fixed braces with headgear, or even surgery

It will not make a lot of difference so wear the number 4 for twice as long.
