I have a sudden outbreak of gum disease next to my implant

Q. I have a sudden outbreak of gum disease next to my only implant which was put in over 2 years ago and has never given me any trouble. I am careful about brushing, flossing and cleaning so this is unexplained. Your site mentions “other drugs can even cause abnormal development of gum disease”. Could you tell me what these might be? Could creatine have any effect? Thank you

A. Hi

Firtsly it is very important to see a hygienist every 3 or 6 months for a 20- 30 mins scale around the mouth, especially if you have implants. Bacteria can get under the gum and cause and inflammation to occur , if it is not regularly cleaned.

i would stress that it is important to see an implant dentist (for an examination)as soon as possible if this problem is occuring, to find out the cause.
