Q. Dr. I have 3 broken teeth, almost down to the gum line. Is it possible to make partials to fit over the rest of the existing teeth? If not, why? I am unemployed and can’t afford much, so I am trying to go with a temp. fix until I land a job and can afford benefits to get them fixed right.

the result of your proposal is called an overdenture, it does exist. you often have to smooth the tooth edges to assist the fitting. The problem you may have is not doing enough treatment to stabilise the roots and getting abscesses on the residual roots if they are not sealed.
