I had a lot of teeth removed due to abscess and infection do dental implants get infected

Q. I have had a succession of teeth removed due to root abscess and infection. Would implants work in my case and can they get infected.?

A. Implants need a healthy site to be placed in. Often the source of abscesses is the teeth themselves. Once the tooth is removed and the socket cleaned and implant can usually be successfully placed following a period of healing.

Implants become osseointegrated to the surrounding bone. this is a very intimate link and results in a very stable end result. However they can become inflammed if not correctly maintained and eventually fail. this fortunately is a fairly uncommon event – the success rate for implants is in the 90% region over 5 years.

Hope this helps.
