I am trying to have jaw surgery but my medical records are lost, what should I do?

Q.
hi i was wondering if you could help, basically when i was 14 i was referred to the royal london hospital for an operation on my jaw to improve my teeth alignment as braces wasnt going to correct this. it was an 18 month waiting list and being 14 i just wanted braces. however now im 19 and after years of authordontic treatment my teeth are still not aligned, i went to a private dentist in colchester to see if he could help, he said that i do need the operation but i need to request my dental notes from the hospital in london as without this he cant refer me to the hospital in colchester. ive tried to request the notes but they said they dont have any records on their system of me. is there anything i can do about this thank yo.u

Dear Enquirer,
If there are no notes then there’s not much you can do about it. You will need to be referred as a new patient just as any other patient who is going for a procedure the first time.
Your dentist will need to refer you.
