I am 64 and have worn dentured since the age of 17
Q. I am 64 and have worn dentured since the age of 17. I was unhappy with the fit of my last dentures mainly because the lower ones moved when I ate and generally felt loose. When I returned to my dentist he said this was because my gums had shrunk so much there was almost nothing for the dentures to grip. As a result I’ve seldom worn my lower dentures for 10-15 years but I still feel embarrassed when I smile…is there any hope for me.
A. Hi
There is definitely hope for you, maybe in the form of dental implants. It is possible to place 2-4 implants in the lower jaw to firmly hold a denture in place during eating and talking, this is something I do on a regular basis and find the patient’s lives can be transformed with a relatively simple procedure
