Q. Hello. I am 62 yrs. old. I have a 3 crown bridge for many, many years. Approx. 2 months ago my bridge lifted out and since have been put back (barley) with temp cemet by my dentist. The problem I am told is that under my 3 crown bridge (which is located on my lower back left) is that only one tooth (which is not the center) has a little bit of tooth left above the gum and the other 2 are so worn down that there is nothing above the gum to secure the bridge any longer. The only solution I was told are dental implants, which I would need 2 extractions and 2 implants . I am scheduled for this week and a nervous wreck!!! I do smoke, which I told my periodontist. My fear (which is my largest) is nerve damage. I know the only other alternative is a removable partial denture. Honestly, I do not want that. I believe that the teeth that are going to be extracted and implants placed are # 19 and 20 (or there about!). He is planning to do the extraction and and implants in one day, and place “something” over that temp. so I will be able to eat. Is there anything you can share with me to make me feel more at ease.
