Q. Dear Dr Caplan, im currantly thinking about having braces, however i have big overbite due to my thumb sucking which i stopped many years ago, i went to the orthodontist and got told i would need an operation before i could get braces, I’m 17 years old and im just wondering after this operation which i believe they said they would have to break my jaw, how this would effect me? How long would i be in hospital after the operation, would it majorly effect the time i had to study. Any information you would be able to give me would greatly appreshiated, Many thanks, Sam.
