HELLO I AM 36 I HAVE HAD BRACES FITTED FOR THE LAST 21 MONTHS MY DENTIST HAS JUST FITTED ME CLEAR SHIELDS OVER MY TEETH,IAM FINDING THESE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE IS THERE A CERTAIN WAY TO REMOVE THEM AND HOW LONG ARE THEY LIKELY TO BE ON FOR

The retainers need to be wore all the time for at least the first 3 months after this they need to be worn every night. They will become easier to remove once you have removed them a couple of times.

To maintain your smile, you will need to wear them for life. As Dr Solanki suggests, you need to wear them 24/7 for the first 4 months, then every night for a year and then work it down to 3 or 4 nights a week for life. Teeth move all the time, even if you haven’t had braces so to minimise this change you will need to get into the habit of keep wearing them. If its important to maintain a smile for people, they’ll do it.
