How long after a tooth extraction can I get a dental implant?

Q. Hi please can you tell me long one can go before having a tooth implant after extracting a tooth?. Also when will it be late to have an implant after extracting a tooth?. Thanks & Kind Redgards,
A. It is possible to place an implant at the time of extraction or to wait for 4-6 months for the bone to heal. If you leave the bone for over 6 months it may shrink back and need supplementing prior to placing the implant

After the tooth/teeth are extracted how long would you need to wait for the implants my dentist has said 6 months but i have read that some people have dental implants placed on the same day as the extracions is this true or is it a special type of implant ? I dont want to have to wait 6 months without a tooth in my mouth as it looks ugly

I recently had a set of digital x rays done prior to having dental implants. Decided to have the work done, by a dentist closer to home, who did the x rays again digitally top and bottom jaw. Is it safe to have had so many x rays in just a couple of weeks? thanks for your time
