How does braces work on my small peg tooth?

Q. Hiya, im nearly 16 years of age and i am due to get my braces fited in about 3weeks time. the reason in which i am getting the braces is because i have a small peg tooth at the front of my teeth in which i am really self concious about and my dentist said that in order to build the tooth up she is going to have more room to do so; however there are other issues. i am very concerned about getting braces as most ofmy friends have already had them removed and i am the only one. when the brace is preparing room for the peg tooth to be built up am i going to have a larger gap there on show or can my dentist build this tooth up as the ortadontic treatment progresses? and how exactly does the building up of a tooth work?

A. Hi there,
I can completely understand your concerns regarding treatement. The one thing that you must remember is that NOW is the time to have braces. You will find it easier now than when you’re older. I have spoken to many  people who regret not having braces through choice when they were younger.
Your orthodontist knows exactly what he/she is doing and you need to ask them about building the tooth up. It should be pretty straight forward. You will need to attend your orthodontic appointments anyway for tightening etc, so I’m sure he/she will be able to address your needs as you along. You have made the right decision about going ahead with treatemnt- I just think you need some reassurance that the end result will be much better than your current situation. Hope this has helped.
Good luck and remember to always discuss any issues you have when you attend your dentist appointment.
