Hi. I am in the middle of replacement veneer work

Q. Hi. I am in the middle of replacement veneer work to my top front 3 teeth, and have been wearing temporary veneers for 4 weeks now. These came off about 3 weeks ago and as my dentist was away, another (non cosmetic) dentist in the practice cemented them back into place (cement had not been used originally). The temporary had to go back on as the prepared teeth were causing excruciating pain, even when just exposed to the air. This concerns me as I had a different experience originally (20 years ago) with minimum discomfort and no temporary veneer required. I am also greatly concerned that the dental cement will obviously need to be removed before fitting the new veneers. Could this mean that the surface of the prepared teeth for which the veneers have been made will now be altered, and will this ultimately affect the fit of the veneers? Should I ask for new impressions to be taken and new veneers made? I’m due to have the final veneers fitted this week and I would be very grateful for your opinion/advice before I go if possible. I’ve recently discovered that my dentist has deliberately misled me on two counts, and so I don’t feel able to trust that he would answer my questions truthfully, and now feel in a very vulnerable position. I appreciate that an official ‘second opinion’ isn’t possible in these circumstances, but would be grateful for any information or advice you feel able to give. Thank you very much.,
A. The important fact is that you didn’t need temporisation before. If the dentist prepared the teeth the enamel may have been removed. Its a subject of debate by all agree that the margin of the veneer is best bonded to enamel not the root dentine. However there are occasions when this isnt possible.
Without a clinical assesment I cannot be specific as what action to advise.
If you have lost confidence it is usually best to change dentist.

Hi. Thank you very much for your advice. I have tried looking around for another dentist close to home (I live a long way from Birmingham unfortunately) but am having some difficulty. Next to the teeth to be veneered is an implant done recently placed by the same dentist, the plan being to have the veneers/implant crown made and fixed at the same time to ensure similarity and fit. Other dentists are reluctant to take the job on for that reason apparently. However, having been for the actual veneer fitting, the work that I was presented with was totally unsuitable – wrong size, shape, fit and colour, so I refused to have them fitted. They are currently being remade, but I am obviously now very nervous. When the temporary veneers came off, what is left of the teeth underneath appears to be blackening. Would this normally happen? The dentist told me that was just the colour of teeth when the enamel is removed, but they weren’t that colour after the original preparation, this is a more recent change. The dentist is also suddenly very busy during daylight hours and I have had to wait a month for my next appointment during the day (I’m reluctant to go at night because of the colour issue), and so it looks as though this may go on for quite some time. Should I persevere with this dentist until the veneers are acceptable, or would you recommend I persevere to find another dentist further afield? Thank you for your help – it is very much appreciated.

i was wondering if you could please give me a quote for a dental implant for my front tooth. i currently have a crown, but my nhs dentist has said that it will need to be replaced as it keeps coming loose, and the tooth thatis left inside my gum is too soft, and crumbling, no longer holding the crown in! as it is a pricey job, i am ‘shopping’ around to get quotes. thank you
