My Dentist Doesn’t Want To Redo My Filling, Why Is This?

Tuesday, July 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hello, can you please help me with something? I have a filling in my front tooth due to an accident that happened when i was younger. Recently the filling has become discolored, so i obviously asked my dentist to redo it because it was really beginning to bother me. She said she will polish it and if it keeps going discolored to come back. i’m not being funny but the whole reason i came is because its already discolored. I feel that waiting will not do me any justice at all and it’s already making me feel very self-conscious. So i was wondering is there any reason why she wouldn’t want to redo it.. or is she just being lazy? I don’t want to have to wait weeks and weeks and the polishing didn’t seem to  make any difference at all. I don’t know what to do…thanks for taking your time in reading this.

My Treatment Is Failing And Still Costing Me A Lot Of Money, What Can I Do?

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hi I have had bridge made on to 1 front and tooth next to it, also as eye tooth at the other side, it is all on one if you know what I mean, I had a partial denture before and wanted a nice smile. I was then to get 2 implants, which went in and I had terrible pain. My dentist’s father died and she went to Cyprus for a week or so. At this point she had her husband X-ray my mouth several times, there was no infection and I was given antibiotics twice still had pain, eventually the pain died down and the two implants were slipping out. The implants were put in on the 18th Dec, two years ago bone graft was also done, however I went on holiday 3 Jan when I returned I called and asked if I was supposed to see them, returned to dentist she took them out, told me maybe one would have rejected but 2 she could not understand, I was left with just the bridge on 3 teeth but she did say the teeth were secure, 2 of my teeth started to go black and I went back last may as I was getting married, my own dentist said I needed root treatment had this done on the front tooth but she could not find the canal on the other one, she did first part and went on holiday and another dentist did bleaching, was not happy with it so he did it again, now my teeth move and my dentist says I need to have a full upper denture on 6 implants after me paying £460 per tooth before, I also had all my bottom teeth done they are okay, but she says I will need to pay another £7.500 for this, can she do this, I did say I was unhappy about this but that is what I have to pay. I paid £1000 toward implant at time and contract said i would only pay £292 for bone graft if implant didn’t take and had no refund on this but paid a lot of money to her, I am so upset and do not have any more money to pay for a denture, Can she do this to me?.
Kind regards.

Why did my Denplan dentist not inform me about abscess? What should I do?

Friday, January 4th, 2013
Q.

Hi
Could I have some advice please? I have been a Denplan member for approx 20 yrs and about 12 yrs ago had a lot of crowns fitted. I am mainly happy with my dentist, albeit he is v busy and its hard to get appts and a personal service lately. He is often stressed. My question is that I felt that I wanted a 2nd opinion on a cosmetic filling that keeps coming out every 2-3 months or less which my dentist regularly replaces. My dentist informs me its because I grind my teeth. Also I had a abscess under a large crown which my dentist gave me anti-biotics for which helped although it hasnt gone completely.

I went to a private dentist to see if they could suggest a filling that wouldnt come out so regularly, he photographed/x-rayed my teeth and said that I still had the abscess under the large crown on the bottom which he says needed a root filling and also discovered I had a large abscess under a crown on the top which was leaking. I have felt slight pain in this area ever since I had the crown fitted (12 yrs ago) but my dentist said it would settle down. He has quoted me a price for the work. I feel confused as to why my denplan dentist hasnt dealt with the abscess on the top and have lost some confidence in him. I dont feel I can afford private treatment all the time and as I have been paying into the denplan scheme for a long time I feel I have invested a lot in it which should cover me. I now have a dilemma as to whether I should let the private dentist do the work that he has uncovered or risk offending my dentist by asking him about the treatment the private dentist recommended. I am also concerned that if I use the private treatment my dentist will ask me to leave Denplan or refuse to keep me as a patient. I am also concerned as to what happens if an abscess is left untreated under a tooth for so long as has happened with the top tooth. I am really conflicted about what to do and would really appreciate some impartial advice please. Sorry for length of e-mail.
KInd regards.

My new bridge doesnt match my other teeth again. What is your advice?

Monday, May 9th, 2011
Q.

Hi. I had an old NHS 3unit bridge that was done very poorly and didn’t match in proportion with my other teeth. I recently had this unit replaced by a private cosmetic dentist and she promised that she would have the teeth match and be in proportion. I went to have to bridge fitted and the bridge looks like the one before, however as I was completely numb I couldn’t talk, and she was running late and rushing, she fitted it and I promptly left. I rang the next day to see if something could be done and I think she may ‘shave’ one of the teeth down. Do you know were I may stand in getting the bridge redone as i’m not happy with it and I feel she hasn’t kept her promise? I paid £2000 and could never afford this again I saved for a very long time just to have it fitted again. Thankyou.

I am unhappy with my new crowns, what can I do?

Q.

Is it normal practice for a dentist not to give you a colour choice of new caps or to show you the shape, I have paid 5K upfront and I am so unhappy with both the shape and the colour.
When the temps were fitted (nearly 4 months ago) they were a brilliant white, at my second fitting (3 months later) more temps fitted a nice white this time and such a perfect shape.
I have had only 4 perms fitted on the front and I am so unhappy compared to the temps they look dull and yellow grey,. the front 2 are too long and 1 has such a bump on the back I cant bite together with my back teeth. When I have my mouth very slightly open I look like a rodent oh and they have black lines on the top. Surley this is not normal I have paid 5K upfront I feel so stupid I have an appointment in another 2 weeks time what can i do,

My teeth were filed down in preparation for a bridge but now the dentist says I can’t have them. What can I do?

Friday, December 17th, 2010
Q.

Good Evening. I have had my front teeth prepared for a fixed bridge. My 3 natural teeth were filed down and temporary bridge cemented on. It looks quite hideous to be honest, but I was prepared to put up with this in the expectation of a decent bridge, but dentist has told me he will do one long bridge over the filed down teeth now, instead of 3 crowns and a bridge fitted to these, as you say is how they are fitted. I am really fed up and want to confront this dentist, but he is a bit of a bully, so i need to be clear on what I can and can’t have. He told me, before the prep work, that my 3 natural teeth were strong enough to fit the bridge. Can you help, or advise, please. Thanks for your time.

My new crowns clash with my bottom teeth and I wanted it to feel natural. What can be done about this?

Monday, November 22nd, 2010
Q.

I have just had 4 Porcelain crowns fitted to my front upper teeth, temps were fine but for one week the permanents were a nighmare, i couldn’t eat, talk properly as they were clashing against my bottom teeth. Went back the dentist drilled their length and also the back to improve my bite, my bite is almost back to normal but she advised if i am still having trouble they can heightening my back teeth to open up my bite a bit more. Is this normal practice, obviously the crowns have now been drilled and are rough where once smooth and secondly if i still wasn’t satisfied to have more work done, hence more money even though my bite was fine to begin with. i’ve never had crowns before so thought what i was feeling was normal to begin with but the clashing of my teeth made me to believe this was something more and no amount of time would get me used to that, i could only talk with a lisp because i was too afraid to talk in case my teeth clashed together. i find it hard to believe that a dentist could miss my bite so much, i’ve been left traumatised by the whole experience, i’ve saved up for this treatment for 2 years and feel totally let down, shocked and very dissapointed. I would like to know if this is something that happens all the time, i would like to know as i would have never went private and had this treatment done. hopefully you can restore my faith in all of this.

Hi. I am in the middle of replacement veneer work

Friday, March 5th, 2010
Q.
Hi. I am in the middle of replacement veneer work to my top front 3 teeth, and have been wearing temporary veneers for 4 weeks now. These came off about 3 weeks ago and as my dentist was away, another (non cosmetic) dentist in the practice cemented them back into place (cement had not been used originally). The temporary had to go back on as the prepared teeth were causing excruciating pain, even when just exposed to the air. This concerns me as I had a different experience originally (20 years ago) with minimum discomfort and no temporary veneer required. I am also greatly concerned that the dental cement will obviously need to be removed before fitting the new veneers. Could this mean that the surface of the prepared teeth for which the veneers have been made will now be altered, and will this ultimately affect the fit of the veneers? Should I ask for new impressions to be taken and new veneers made? I’m due to have the final veneers fitted this week and I would be very grateful for your opinion/advice before I go if possible. I’ve recently discovered that my dentist has deliberately misled me on two counts, and so I don’t feel able to trust that he would answer my questions truthfully, and now feel in a very vulnerable position. I appreciate that an official ‘second opinion’ isn’t possible in these circumstances, but would be grateful for any information or advice you feel able to give. Thank you very much.,
