Do you know why I bite my tongue when I sleep?

Q. Hi,im 25 years old. Do you know why i bite my tongue when im sleep? I do it every night and all night long but it happen only in the left side no matter if im sleep on my right side. Im tired of all this because is to hurt, i can’t even eat or drink, my tongue is so sore… Do you think a mouthguard help? If it does… What kind? Thank you so much,
A. Yes its maybe a tooth grinding problem so a bit guard might help
