Do I need my back teeth? If so should I get dental implants?

Q. I only have one back molder tooth left on the top left side of my mouth and I’m having trouble, just had a root canal but have been advised it may not work and may have to get the tooth removed. Is it necessary to have any teeth back there? What will happen if there is no teeth back there? Do you recommend an implant or plate if teeth are required?,
A. It’s always advisable to replace a tooth but less important right at the back of the mouth. Without a tooth in the gap the adjacent and opposing teeth will drift.
