Dentist recommended lower jaw surgery but is this necessary?

Q. I just got back from my orthodontist and they told me that my lower jaw is too big, that they will give me one more year to grow (I’m 16) and that they may have to do lower jaw surgery (slide my jaw back). But my two front teeth are at an angle. Is this a serious problem? Is the surgery completely nessecary?,
A. I would strongly advise that you go for the surgery now- as you are still young. It is a procedure that can still be done when you are older, but if it is done now, then you will save on the costs- as after a certain age, then you will need to pay for this surgery- and it comes at a price. Orthodontics is the best way to correct your occlusion (the way you bite together)and your two front upper teeth will be straightened with a brace afterwards. Hope tis has helped. If you have any questions in regards to your treatment, it is advisable to see the dentist/surgeon who is undertaking your case in order for you to fuly understand all of the options and reasons behind it all. This is very important for both you and the dentist. Good luck.

my jaw is also too big and I have seen a surgeon regarding the operation however I have not gone through with it as I am worried about the procedure. Have you had the Op yet? I am 22 and I really want to sort my teeth out as it is really getting me down. I keep wondering if there is anyway of me getting my teeth straightned without this type of surgery?
