Could the treatment for gum disese be done on the NHS

Q. Hi One of my teeth is loose (next to the front ones) and I have decide to investigate the possibility of getting an implant. I attended a clinic for an initial consultation with examination and CT scan. I have been told by the consultant that I have some gum disese and pocketing which requires treatment first. I was advised that I would need three 1 hour sessions with the peridontist and that each session would costs £240. What exactly would this work entail to cost so much (is this reasonable)? Could using products like corsodyl help clear up the gum disese? Could this be done on the NHS? Also, should I receive a treatment plan in advance of any treatment? Nothing like that was discussed and I really felt pressured. Thanks

A. You should receive a written treatment plan with all the costs of both the gum treatment and implants. The fee for the specialist treatment is reasonable as this treatment requires skill and care to prevent the loss of any other teeth. Also you are unlikely to receive treatment like this on the NHS unless you try a dental hospital
