Was the abscess caused by filing the tooth?

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q.
I saw my dentist 2 months ago for a check up and whilst i was there i mentioned i had a sensitive tooth. the dentist diagnosed a high point and filed it down. he said it would be a little sensitive for a while. he said my oral hygeine was excellent and teeth in good condition.but a week ago i developed very bad tooth ache in the same tooth and went back to the dentist who said id need a root canal filling. on my visit today my tooth was x rayed and i was told i have an abscess and the dentist also said that the root was not straight. he showed me the x ray and started the root canal treatment. my tooth is extremely painful now, i cannot put pressure on it. was the abscess caused by filing the tooth? it states on most of these websites that absesses are caused by bad oral hygeine but that was not something i have? will the treatment work being as the root is not straight?

I am not sure as to what cosmetic procedure I should undertake

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q.
I was wondering if i could get some advice. I have two front teeth which have crowns and my jaw is very narrow. My bite is around 10mm compared to the average. Although my teeth are fairly straight I lose confidence when I smile as my front teeth are very apparant. I have been to my dentist and looked at othodontic treatment but am not keen on having a brace (I am 33 years old)and do not really have the time to do so as I may be working abroad in the future. I have also had a impression and new teeth placed onto the result to see what I would look like, however there is not much difference. I am really eager to have cosmetic work done but not sure what I can do. Please help as its getting me quite down. Many Thanks,

Q.
About a month ago, i went for routin cleaning. The Dentist discover a cavity on one of my back tooth( which has a filling done before) After that the tooth become very sensitive and tender. I went back to the Dentist four time since then. She said the bite was not right and did some filling ( twice). Still the tooth is very tender, and senstive. Now she wants to try some procedure(remove the filling and put a medicated one)If that does not work she will do root cannal. I never had a problem with the tooth to beign, now it fills like there is little tooth left to do any thing with. What do you suggest my next step should be? ( i have been very careful not to use the affected tooth, vene afraid to put any thing in that side of my mouth) Appreciate your help

Q.
My front 4 teeth are just fine on the top, however the rest on either side are either broken, decaying or missing. What would be my best bet with dentures? Partials, over dentures, or complete upper set?

Transparency in pricing

Q.
Hi Dr Tennet Apologies in adavance for the length of this email. At 03.52am I start my day (my brain seems to work at high optimum frequency at this time of the morning) (-:) Q 1. Out of the 9 Panel Experts only 2 indicate Treatment Fees (yourself & Dr Butt) on their website whlist the remaining 6 don’t. I then deduce from this that approx 80% (2/9)of your Panel of Experts are embrassed to show their fee’s for some unknown reason, please correct me if there is another reason? Please can you confirm whether this behaviour is reflected across the entire Private Dental Market in the UK as a whole? Q.2 As Panels of experts should you not all lead by Example by ensuring that the “The Price Marker Act of 2004” (http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2004/20040102.htm) is adherred too? Q.3 Having spoken to Consumer Direct I understand that any Dentist that is NOT displaying their Treatment Fees (not to be confused with a Treatment Plan) to Customers will can be referred to Trading Standards who in turn will visit to confirm if the is Law is being broken by that Dentist in question and consequently they can face Criminal Charges and a Fine. Is it then right to classify that Dental Practice as poor in Customer Service? Q.4 In 8 January 2009, the following website I understand will be launched www.dentalpricecheck.com by a Canary Wharf highflier who has as I understand financed ten millions pounds of his own money and has ingeniously captered the details of over 10,000 Private Dentists and their Treatment Fees which people can search online similar to comparison websites (he has over 600,000 Treatment Fees). One of the good deeds he will be doing is sharing Treatment Fees with the Office of Fair Trading for any unfair pricing and Consumers Groups such as the likes of Which Magazine and Consumer Advice Bureau. What are your views on this from the Consumers perspective and what are the positives and negatives from the dentist point of view? Q.5 What reasons would you or would you not classify the above website as a Champion of the Consumers website? Look forward to your comments and that of your Panel of Experts. Kind Regards

My dentist wants to do is remove the crown and remaining tooth and replace it with a denture

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q.
Hi, I fell over and knocked out half of my front tooth 11 years ago. I went to my dentist who drilled the remaining tooth and then fitted a crown. About 3 months later I developed a lump up in my gum, so I went back to the dentist who gave me antibiotics and who told me that it would go. It wasnt painful. And it never went. And I never went back to the dentist. Two years ago I developed an abcess on this tooth and was prescribed some antibiotics which cleared it up. I was meant to go back but as I am absolutley terrified of the dentist, I chose not too. Since then I had another abcess on the same tooth and my face became really swollen etc. I once again was prescribed a course of antibiotics and never went back to the dentist. What my dentist wants to do is remove the crown and remaining tooth and replace it with a denture – which – for some reason – I do not have a problem with. However, my main fear is that something bad will happen. I dont know what exactly, but im just so terrified. My tooth starts to hurt when its cold also. Is there a worse case scenario here? If I do get it removed, is part of my jaw bone likely to come away or something?? Thanks.
