i developed bad hiatitus hernia as a result my teeth are badly eroded can it be fixed in NHS

Monday, April 27th, 2009
Q.
Since i was little, I had a brilliant dentist, he moved surgery twice and i followed him, Unfortunatley he retired, and whilst finding a new dentist, i was never given enought pain relief and was in pain and became scared, from once loving the dentist and i stopped going for 2 years, 2 years ago i developed a really bad hiatitus hernia, which caused me to be sick regulary every day for years causing my to be badly eroded and my 2 front almost see through, I have just had an operation to fix the problem, and I’m better, Pluked up the courage to see a new dentist and he said i needed around £500 of work, couldn’t i get it done by the NHS as it was a medical problem that caused it ? I have also heard of people who go to the doctor tell them of thier fear of dentist and they get sent to the hospital, knocked out and all the treatment done for free?

i dont understand how i can have a bridge when the teeth either side are loose any advise

Friday, April 24th, 2009
Q.
Hi,I have been having treatment for gum disease at a dental hospital and was advised to have my bottom front tooth out as it was loose and could`nt be saved.I have a temporary denture and was told my dentist would fit a bridge in 6 months.I have noticed the teeth either side of the missing tooth at the bottom of my mouth are long and there is movement in them. When I asked at the hospital at my next appointment the specialist said I could still get a bridge.I don`t understand how I can have a bridge when the teeth either side are loose.I was told I would`nt be suitable for implants as I have severe bone loss.I was upset about this as I had been saving hoping to get implants.Any advise would be greatly appreciated.Thankyou

what can i do about the huge crown and it hangs over when i close my mouth and aches

Friday, April 24th, 2009
Q.
My upper left 14 was crowned and during prep I felt pain on the front of the tooth where it meets 13. I think he filed it down during prep to much there and messed me up! It is always sore. It used to be unbearable 6 weeks ago, but pain subsiding yet won’t seem to go away. Another issue is Now my whole bite is off, 13 and 14 sore sometimes 12! I get headaches and jaw popping/ clicking loud. When they do the black paper for adjustment they say it all looks good. Then how come my bite is now off and when I close my mouth on the left side the only teeth that touch is the 10 and 15 to my bottom teeth!? Also, the crown is huge, I have small mouth and can it be filed down all around? If not, can I get a ‘skinnier’ crown? How could the dr put this huge thing in my mouth and it feels like a wad of gum up there? This tooth was simply I went in to just replace an amalgam filling and was told it was big. my option whether to crown or not. The dentist didn’t warn me of the possible complications and repeat appointments to fit it- I had to relocate to another state and have no more money to fix this! He also didn’t tell me that the filling was not deep and that I could have had an inlay. I feel mislead and ripped off. What can I do this crown is huge and hangs over when I close my mouth and aches. My tooth never hurt before all of this…

Could a 10mm implant be expected to last my life time if cared for properly

Friday, April 24th, 2009
Q.
Hello! I’ve had my LL7 tooth root treated twice now (both times due to dental error in restoring it – the first inlay failed and broke my tooth leading to the inital root canal and the second inlay came off and then was put on incorrectly requiring a retreatment). I’ve obviously changed dentists now. However, in terms of implants in that area, a dentist has informed me that he could place a 10mm implant there, which he said would give a good long term result. I’d like to know: 1. Is it normal/necessary to have implants in the LL7 site (I’m 33)? 2. Is 10mm a normal length in that area? 3. Could a 10mm implant be expected to last my life time if cared for properly etc (I’ve never smoked, am very healthy). By the way, that was a 10mm implant AFTER a bone graft, which he said he’ll perform at the same time as the tooth extraction (he showed me lots of case studies of this procedure, including one on his wife!). Does a 10mm implant AFTER a bone graft in LL7 seem about right? A second issue is that due to failed dental work (I’ve suffered a lot with this one dentist unfortunately who is, by the way, paying for all necessary treatment now) I’ve not really chewed anything on LL7 for around three years now and I tend to chew on the other side of my mouth. Would this lack of chewing influence the bone levels at the LL7 site, giving me less bone to place an implant in? Many apologies for this very long set of questions! Regards

would it be possible to advise of any good nhs dentist in birmingham area

Friday, April 24th, 2009
Q.
Hi Rob I hope you will be able to advise me…….I am a 34 year old female and have a large gap in the middle of my 2 front teeth, which seems to have got wider over the years, this is drastically affecting my confidence, and I would like to do something about it. Can you please advise what the best procedure to have done is, or whether any of the following procedures would be available from an NHS Dentist: Crowns, Veneers or Braces? and if so what the cost is likely to be? Would it also be possible to advise of any good NHS Dentists in the Birmingham area or any good private dentists who can offer a payment plan for any work or treatments undertaken? Your advice would be very much appreciated, thanking you in advance. Regards
