I’d like my teeth to look whiter, what do you advise?

Thursday, May 20th, 2010
Q.
Hello, Since being a young age i have suffered with my teeth, for some reason they use to decay and discolour quickly. At the age of 8 i fell and broke my two front teeth of which i now have a cap and bridge. I could never understand what cause my teeth to be like this as i always had a good diet. A few years ago my teeth starting improving and i went to a new dentist, she told me i had some sort of disorder which caused my teeth to decay and discolour, do you know what this is called?. As you can imagine it was a relief to find out that it hadn’t been my fault, i am conscious of my teeth now and would love to have them whitened, i looked in to this but have recently been told that my cap and bridge can not be whiten. They are naturally a little whiter than my naturally teeth but i was just wondering if you thought it was possible for them to lift a little lighter. If not what would you advise.

What can be done about uncomfortable denture due to centrally placed implant?

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010
Q.
Dr Patel, I would appreciate it if you could give me your opinion regarding implant which I had placed 2 months ago in lower jaw. It looks as if they have not been placed centrally and are visible to me at the front. Is this normal. I have been back to my dentist and his reaction was to leave it for another month and see him again. I am struggling in the meantime with a denture which isnt very comfortable. thank you.,

Are there any alternatives to dental veneers which are affordable?

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010
Q.
Hello, I had a porcelain veneer put in last year but some of it has now chipped off. As the enamel from that tooth has been ground down is there any alternative to veneers which are affordable? (My dentist has said that a crown would not be possible on that tooth due to there not being enough original tooth left)

I don’t want my new crown to look too high, what should I do?

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010
Q.
Hello. I had an old PFM crown on my peg lateral removed because it had a dark line showing at the gum and has caused an amalgam tattoo. I currently have a temporary crown while waiting for my permanent. My dentist removed some of the gum (contouring?) because it sat much lower than the surrounding teeth. To me, it looks like she removed too much. She said she did that on purpose because the gum comes down after the procedure. It has been two weeks and it is still high. I believe she made a mistake. I asked another dentist on this site and he said it is true that the gum generally comes down. How can that be? I am nervous because my amalgam goes up so high under my gum that I don’t want my new crown to either look too high or show the amalgam. I went 20 years with a bad crown and was looking forward to a nice new one.,

How can I start my research in regards to the possibility of dental implants?

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010
Q.
Hi Riten, I am writing on behalf of my father who is 68 years of age. He has had a full set of false teeth for the past 30 years or so since his dentist recommended he have all of his teeth removed?! He has regretted taking the dentists advice ever since and has asked me to enquire into the possibility of him replacing these with implants. He lives in Lincoln and is keen to have the work done as locally as possible and I doubt he would consider anything outside of the UK. May I ask for some pointers on where to start my research, particularly systems/brands that you would recommend and also ones to avoid. Also any particular pitfalls I should look out for plus any other usefull insider knowldge including apporx cost and recommended dentists to perform the wrok. Great site by the way. Many Thanks Stuart,
