am i too old for orthodontics

Sunday, September 14th, 2008
Q.
At the age of 12 – 15 I had braces fitted to my teeth ( upper mouth only) and the results were impressive. Now at the age of 44 I feel my front teeth have rotated slightly with a very slight overlap. The teeth next to my front teeth ( again on upper mouth) have rotated even more. Can I , at my age, have this corrected and would it be beneficial? The difference is slight but I am very aware of it. I would also like to have my bottom teeth straightened. Would you advise a consultation to assess this or would you think it unlikely anything could be done. I would appreciate your advice Kind regards

my crown doesnt fit after breast cancer treatment

Sunday, September 14th, 2008
Q.
I hope you can help. In Dec I was diagnosed with breast cancer. During my chemotherapy I lost my gold crown off of my wisdom tooth. (I still have the crown) but was told that I could not have any dental treatment because of the threat of infection. Now the problem is that the crown will no longer fit the tooth as the tooth has eroded slightly. I am now finishing up my radiotherapy. I live in France at the moment and the dentist here tells me the tooth will have to be extracted. I have spent an absolute fotune on my teeth and am very reluctant to take this advice. Can you give me any further info ? I will be in UK shortly.

could you give me some information on the veneers

Sunday, September 14th, 2008
Q.
Hi there , Please could you give me some information on the veneers . For years I have had 2 front veneers which have fallen off on several occasions , I am constantly having to pay out to have them replaced . Also I have never really been happy with the colour of my teeth which has got worse after having my children and it is my dream to have them all veneered to give me the perfect hollywood smile !I feel mine are grey and discoloured in places. However my husband would have a heart attack if he is landed with this bill , therefore I will have to save myself as i really would like to get this done to boost my confidence. Is there any way of obtaining a great deal when thinking of having extensive work? I am 33 and this has been constantly on my mind for the past 10 years ! Also do the come with any warranty i.e 5 years etc. I would be grateful for any help you could give me. Many Thanks

I have a baby tooth where my upper canine should be

Thursday, September 11th, 2008
Q.
Hello, I am 29 and have a baby tooth where my upper canine should be. My upper canine is in my mouth (so to speak) but it has grown in my gums above my normal set of teeth. I had the gum cut open when I was young to allow the tooth to come through and I was supposed to have my baby tooth removed and have the other tooth brought down and secured in place with a brace. I never had this done. This was 15 years ago. Now my baby tooth has gone black and I want to get this rectified. The dentist I am registered with keeps saying he will forward me on to an orthodentist but he hasn’t done this yet despite numerous requests. This problem is really affecting my confidence as my baby tooth looks awful and it is close to the front of my mouth. I want to get this sorted asap, and was wandering whether you would advise having both teeth removed and an implant put in, or how I can get in touch with an orthodentist who can help me. I have no problem with having an implant if that is going to be the best course of action, but I need help in making the decision. I don’t care if the tooth is my own or an implant, just as long as it looks good. Please can you offer me any advice. I would like to know which is the best path to go down and what the likely cost will be. Kind Regards

thinning tooth enamel

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008
Q.
Hello Riten I was wondering if you would be able to advise the best treatment for thinning tooth enamel My top jaw front incisors have thinned a lot – to the extent where they are practically opaque from the middle. I am very concerned about them, and have tried toothpaste such as proenamel and enamel protect etc, to slow down the process. I have done a little research into the condition, and am under the impression there is not much that can be done to rebuild tooth enamel. I would be very interested in hearing of any treatments – cosmetic or otherwise I would also like to have my teeth whitened – can you please advise the best procedure for long lasting results Kind Regards

pain after having root canal re done

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008
Q.
After having pain in one of my upper front teeth, I was advised to have two root canals redone. I was still in pain after this treatment and was referred to a periodontist who after examining me proclaimed that I have a bone fracture above my front teeth and a large cyst. I have been advised to have the following treatment: removal of my 4 front teeth 7,8,9 & 10 bone grafting implants on teeth 7 & 10 bridges on teeth 8 & 9 Firstly what would cause a bone fracture? Does this treatment sound like a good option? I am a little wary especially after the initial misdiagnosis, the periodontist did ask why the root canals had been re done and then suggested that maybe the fracture had been missed on previous x-rays (4 were taken before treatment began, and 2 after), is this a likely scenario? The periodontist noticed the fracture on my full mouth x-rays and then confirmed it with 2 more. Apologies if I have muddled my questions somewhat, I am still in shock!

my bone is too soft for dental implants

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008
Q.
Have just had an implant done to be told it has not taken because my bone is too soft. Although he will leave it for two weeks with temp tooth for my son’s wedding he has suggested that I have a maryland bridge. I am so upset and stressed, will it hurt taking it out and will the bridge work ok. Is there anything wrong with me if my bones are too soft. As you can see I am very worried. Plus the cost as well
