my crown doesnt fit after breast cancer treatment

Q. I hope you can help. In Dec I was diagnosed with breast cancer. During my chemotherapy I lost my gold crown off of my wisdom tooth. (I still have the crown) but was told that I could not have any dental treatment because of the threat of infection. Now the problem is that the crown will no longer fit the tooth as the tooth has eroded slightly. I am now finishing up my radiotherapy. I live in France at the moment and the dentist here tells me the tooth will have to be extracted. I have spent an absolute fotune on my teeth and am very reluctant to take this advice. Can you give me any further info ? I will be in UK shortly.

A.
I hope your treatment is going well and you are on the mend.  The problem may be that the bone surrounding the tooth has reduced so much that the tooth may not have a long term prognosis.  I would recommend having the tooth x-rayed as it may be treatable.  Sometime the tooth can be built up to fit your existing crown.
I hope this helps
