Can I Get My Overbite Fixed Without Having My Jaw Broken?

Wednesday, March 27th, 2013
Q.

Hello i ve been searching the internet for other options on jaw alignment. When i went through my treatment with the orthodontist to straighten my teeth they told me that my bottom jaw was about 1 cm behind my top jaw causing a very noticable overbite which i am not happy with and is affecting my confidence. They told me about this and said easiest and quickest way to fix this was to have fixed braces top and bottom to align my teeth and then after have my bottom jaw broken and moved forward. I really want to sort this problem out but i dont like the idea of this option and hope you know of any other options that could possibly work for me. I think i would get what ever treatment free because im only 17 and still get free NHS treatment until 18 or 19.
Cheers any advice will be great.

I want to remove my baby canines and get braces. How should I go about this?

Friday, February 15th, 2013
Q.

Hello
I have two upper baby canines that never came out up to this day. The adult teeth formed inside the gums but did not grow out as there was no space for them, I had x-rays done that showed their position. I am 26 years old. I would like to know if it’s ok to leave those adult teeth that are inside the gums as they are or if I have to get them removed somehow. Would leaving them there cause any complications/problems? I just want to remove the baby canines and get braces to straight the teeth that are next to them but I don’t know what I should do about the ones that never grew out of the gums.

My front tooth has shifted before I got my Essix retainer. Now it won’t move back. What can I do?

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hi. I had adult braces and when they came off, I had to wait five days to receive my essix retainer. In this time, my front tooth has shifted forward whereas it was totally straight when braces were removed. I have been wearing essix retainer religiously but the gap is exactly the same and shows no sign of closing…what can I do? I’m so paranoid the gap will keep opening. Will th essix retainer not push the tooth straight back into position? My impressions were taken the same day my braces came off so should be perfect. Also the essix only came halfway on teeth and they still don’t cover all the teeth and there are spaces between the bottom of the front teeth and the essix retainer. About 3 or 4 millimetres. I have been using aligned chewies but to no avail. How do I know if the tetainer is fitting me properly and doing its job. Also is it necessary for the retainer to cover all the front teeth? Even if my retainer for bottom of teeth to bottom of retainer, the top of my teeth would still be exposed……should this cover the gums too? Please help

Can my growing wisdom teeth cause my already protruding incisor to look even worse?

Wednesday, December 12th, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr Moore. My problem is that my lateral incisor sticks out as there isn’t enough space between my canine and front incisor so it sits on top of both with a small gap behind about 1/2 cm. I could be wrong but the canine appears to be larger then the other side and is square in shape and is wider at the bottom. My top wisdom teeth have been coming up really slowly for about 2 years no and I am worried that they may push my teeth further making it worse. Can this happen? I am already very paranoid about it…also I am a bit apprehensive about braces so would appreciate any ideas on other solutions. Any advice would be great, thank you.

My dentist offered me a ceramic brace but I feel a lingual brace would be better, what do you think?

Friday, December 7th, 2012
Q.

Hi I recently went to a consultation and i have and few very small gaps that i want to closed and i was also told that i have a slight over bite. She said that i need top and bottom braces. When asked if I could have the clear Invisalign brace she told me that they wouldn’t do a good job to correct my teeth but didn’t say why . She offered for me to have the ceramic brace, because of the fact I really don’t want them to show. But I think I would prefer the lingual braces instead, would they work just as good, and how much would they be also including the clear removable retainer ? Thank you for your time!

They told me I needed braces but never did it. My teeth are over lapping and broken and crooked. I am only in part time work and can’t get a loan to get them sorted. What are my options. I have sever depression and don’t like to smile. I have tried to research but people have very unhelpful advice

Is it really necessary for me to have an operation to fix my overbite?

Friday, December 7th, 2012
Q.

Hiya Dr Butt. I wondered if you would be able to advise me on an issue I have been suffering with? I have an overbite and slightly crooked teeth and have been told by an orthodontist that i need to have a jaw operation and a brace fitted to give the best result. I am not keen on this route and wondered if i was able to have veneers fitted instead, or veneers fitted and a invisalign brace as i am not keen on having the operation, i am 37 years old and am not confident with smiling and just want a quicker result.Any advice would be great a general idea of prices might be good too! thank you.

My two front teeth are large and I know I won’t benefit from braces, so what are my options?

Thursday, December 6th, 2012
Q.

My two front teeth are much longer than the rest and make me look goofy. I’ve been bullied most of my life for it and finally need something done to fix them. They don’t protrude so there would be no benefit of Having braces. I have heard of people having them filed down, is this possible and what are the advantages and disadvantages as i have heard that your teeth can end up with sensitivity issues afterwards. Also can you tell me What other options are available please?

I have a small gap in between my two front teeth following brace treatment, will my retainer fix this?

Thursday, December 6th, 2012
Q.

Hi Doctor Moore. I had my train track braces removed a few years ago and very rarely wore my plastic removable retainers. My teeth have remained straight but I have a small gap between my front two teeth. Those could be caused by the fact I suck my thumb! I was wondering if I would need to have braces again to close the gap or if wearing my retainer again would close the gap? If I was to give up sucking my thumb would my teeth move again and close the gap? I really don’t want to go back to wearing braces again, would I maybe require a bonded retainer do you think? I can see the gap getting bigger every day and it is worrying me…Thank you for your help. Kind regards.
