My mum keeps getting absesses which means her teeth are being removed, what is causing the abscesses?

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010
Q.
My mother is in her 60s, over the last 12 months she has had abscess after abscess which have required teeth to be extracted to the point where she only has about 3 left. What are the possible reasons for this? Her dentist seems quite happy removing her teeth and not looking for an underlying cause. He is also not doing anything about replacements and she is now finding eating very difficult and the few teeth that are left are causing great discomfort to her bare gums. Please help,

Is my tooth infected or is it decaying?

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010
Q.
Hi I had the last molar on my right side extracted just over 2 weeks ago and the extraction site is healing fine. Up until a few days ago I was finding it hard to brush the molar next to it but now I can without pain.. I was worried about decay at the back of this tooth so I used a mirror to check it and noticed it was slightly stained, upon feeling it with my finger I felt a sharp pain when my nail touched a certain part of the tooth. Could it be infected or decaying or is this normal due to the extraction?? I also have a small silver filling in the tooth so could this be a factor in causing the pain?? Please help as I am extremely freaked out and worried!,

Questions regarding dentistry.

Monday, June 7th, 2010
Q.
Haya I got a few questions ill just put them into i list if that is ok. Is it good being a dentist? How long do you have to go college to be a dentist? Do you have to pay the college to train to become a dentist? Is it hard work? How much do you get paid a year? How many hours a week do you work? Do you get days off? I think that is about it.,

Did my son have his adult tooth removed by accident?

Monday, June 7th, 2010
Q.
hi my 6 year old son had two of his teeth removed because the fillings were falling out and he had peri apical infection. the teeth that had been removed were URD and URE. I was told that those were milk teeth. Now I am concerned there was mistake and they remowed one of his adult teeth .before he had 22 teeth. There was 5 on each side exept for upper right side where there was 7 teeth,. Now he has 4 teeth a gap after 2 removed and one last one. Does it mean that he had adult tooth removed or is it possible to have extra tooth? he did not have any x-ray to check and i was told not to worry, but i cant stop thinking that there was a mista,

Would removing all of my wisdom teeth reduce my overbite?

Monday, June 7th, 2010
Q.
I am 26 and have always had a slight over bite but not serious. However after getting my wisdom teeth through my overbite is much more noticable. My dentist refered me to have all my wisdom teeth extracted as they were so far back that keeping them clean was a nightmare. The consultant decided to only remove one tooth in the end. What I am wondering is whether removing all the wisdom teeth would help reduce the overbite?,

Should I have my wisdom tooth extracted before I go on holiday?

Friday, June 4th, 2010
Q.
I went to the dentist yesterday and he said I should have my last remaining top right wisdom tooth removed because it is decaying and he said there is black stuff and plaque on that won’t come off. He did say he could fill it if I wanted but I am not sure. It is not causing me any pain at the moment. If i do have it extracted, I was thinking of leaving it until the summer holidays but would it best to have it removed 8 days before I fly or wait until I come back?,

How long should I wait for the filling to become pain free, before I go to see a dentist?

Friday, June 4th, 2010
Q.
I’m having pain after a new filling in my back molar #30, only when I eat, chewing on food. I had a white composite filling put in. I had it x ray, and the dentist said it look fine. The root and filling look fine. The dentist said I could be experiencing some inflammation in the tooth from the procedure. The dentist didn’t think I had a crack and no infection. He smooth it down a bit, and told me to take Aleve pain medicine over the counter. The filling is mostly on the backside of the tooth. Would this make the tooth more prone to being sensitive to biting for awhile? How long should I wait after a filling, if it doesn’t get better? It’s been 8 days since I had it done. Thanks.,

Friday, June 4th, 2010
Q.
I have had really bad toothache for the past 3 days, I rang the NHS Direct number yesterday and they said I am not entitled to NHS emergency dentist service, I am only entitled if it is root canal problem, but I am not sure myself what the problem is, just that the toothache is becoming unbearable! Please could you reply asap, many thanks for your time.,
